My daughter managed to catch some fabulous video of Pippin, our 3yo budgie, talking. :)

(This is my first attempt with movie maker so be kind! ;) )

He does indeed! ♥

I LOVE IT! Pippin is so adorable. And it's even cuter 'cause I love the Aussie accent. hee hee hee.

Can't get much more Aussie than a budgie!

That was hilarious! That is so awesome. Do budgies learn just by hearing the same things repeated? This is amazing and just blew my mind.

My 4 year old daughter just made me play it 3 times in a row and she is now saying "MY LITTLE PEEPIN!" over and over and laughing. Of course now she wants a bird like "PEEPIN" for Christmas. HA! Oh now she wants to see it again hahahahah.

Thanks for sharing :)

I'm so glad you and your daughter enjoyed it so much! We love him to bits of course!

And, yes, it's just repetition. He surprises us what he pics up sometimes. I sometimes call Evie, my daughter's quaker parrot, our little blue dinosaur - cos she makes the cutest little dinosaur noises and would 'eat' the budgies given half a chance. ;~P And now Pippin says dinosaur!

Just to let you know, my daughter out of nowhere today just started saying "My little Pippin!" Your bird made quite an impact on her :)

Awww! *is so proud of "Peeepin" for spreading the joy!*
4th-Dec-2009 05:31 pm (UTC)
That is the most adorable thing I have seen in a very long time. I never knew budgies could have such an extensive vocabulary! Tiny tiny Pippin. Heee.
5th-Dec-2009 12:59 am (UTC)
Yes, and he still learns new words all the time! :~)
4th-Dec-2009 07:09 pm (UTC)
WOW...that's impressive. :)
5th-Dec-2009 12:59 am (UTC)
Heh. We think so too. :~)
4th-Dec-2009 08:58 pm (UTC) - Oh - that is so amazing
Pippin is adorable. I didnt realise a bird could remember so many words. Go Buffy and Spike!

5th-Dec-2009 01:04 am (UTC) - Re: Oh - that is so amazing
Thanks Jo! You'll have to come visit them in person! *hugs*

Now that is a fanboy budgie if I ever heard one! Simspsons, Ren and Stimpy. lolol. Gosh there's such clarity with a lot of that, he's amazing Kate!
5th-Dec-2009 12:58 am (UTC)

There's vid of him singing HappyHappyJoyJoy on youtube. :)
4th-Dec-2009 09:56 pm (UTC)
OMG SO CUTE!!!! I didn't know budgies could speak so well!!!
5th-Dec-2009 12:52 am (UTC)
Oh, yes, they're brilliant talkers! How's your wee parrotlet going? :~)
5th-Dec-2009 06:50 am (UTC)
heehee! He's doing okay..I think he' slowly warming up to me. I have him eating millet out of my hands and he has recently obliged to climb onto my shoulder and walk around with me. Still a bit of a nipper though, he's also developed a nasty habit of dive bombing our dogs whenever he sees them. I was recently informed that Parrotlets are considered the "pitbulls" of the parrot world..I can see how they get that reputation..lol!

it would be amazing if he could pick up words like your lil pippin!! I would just die of adorableness!! XD
5th-Dec-2009 12:48 am (UTC)
Hee - he's SO cute!! ^.^ I love how they start making up their own sentences out of the phrases they know.
5th-Dec-2009 12:56 am (UTC)
I know! It amazes us when he rearranges words to make up sentences that actually mean something! eg: we always talked to him about 'your Luna, Pippin's Luna' etc. and he turned it around and calls her 'MY Luna'. O.o
Actually his full phrase is 'my beautiful darling Luna', (which we did not teach him) which he abreviates to "my beaw dar Loo." XD
5th-Dec-2009 04:07 pm (UTC)
So cool! I was just about to ask how much he manages to put into context. I've never been around a talking bird, so I'm always amazed by your budgie videos. *grin*
6th-Dec-2009 12:28 pm (UTC)
It's almost spooky how much he says in context. First time I noticed it was when I happened to be making a salad for dinner, and his cage was nearby, and he looked very pointedly and excitedly at the greens and said "Yummy!" So I held some up to him and got a "YUMMY! YUMMY!"

Now he says something in context almost daily. Like he'll be sitting on my hand or shoulder, quietly chattering, tilt his head to watch Luna nearby, and say, "Look at Luna."

But there's nothing more heartmelting than hearing him say "I love you!" with feeling and know he means exactly what he said.
