I told you so!
my art for 2007
6th-Jan-2008 02:37 am
Owl totem
I went into 2007 with a commission list a mile long, and spent most of the year worrying about it.  When I looked my art memories to do this review, I was staggered and ashamed at how little art I managed to do this year!  Then I realised I had neglected to put a lot of art into my memory file.  ;~P  As it turns out, I wasn't as slack as I first thought.  And considering I was dealing with a major house extension and a trip to the US and Canada in the middle of it all, I didn't do too bad at all!  I didn't get through my commission list, but I'm halfway and determined!

Favorite drawing for 2007:

Would have to be the piece I did for the Deathly Hallows coverart comp at TLC.

My best drawing for 2007:
I painted a portrait of my (deceased) stepfather as a birthday present for my Mum that made her very happy.

Most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion:

The Bill I did as a get well pressie for my nutnatz, but that's to be expected since I didn't post it anywhere.  *is an idiot*

Most fun drawing:

The big Yule Ball at Malfoy Manor painting.  It had so many characters in it, many I've never drawn before, so I did enjoy that.

Sexiest drawing:

The Harry/Ron I did for Shocolate's birthday.  Sometimes my Muse is kind, and I do think this piece radiates love and caring with a strong sexual pull.  This piece drew itself.  No references.

Picture I want to be remembered by:

JKRowling.

"Holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" drawing:
No... don't think I qualify for that one this year.  ;~)  I must aim for one this year!  Oh, I did do a Harry/Hermione piece at Prophecy... Heh.  But I haven't seen it posted anywhere so I can't post it here.

Drawing that shifted my own perceptions of the characters:

The Founders.  It really made me think about them.

Hardest drawing to do:

I think that would have to be the SW Weddings one I did for may_child.  It seemed to take forever.  So many layers.  And the lace...  And I got all anal with Han and Leia's clothes, which I was happy with in the end, but... a lot of time and effort in that one.

Biggest disappointment:
That I had to close my Commission list, and still haven't got through it.  And that I haven't managed to do more Deathly Hallows art.

Biggest surprise:
That my DH coverart piece is still the most viewed piece in TLCs fanart gallery.

Goals for 2008
To get through my Commission list and be open for new ones!  Also to get some personal art done, especially some more portrait and silk work.

Go to your Calendar and find the first entry for each month of 2007 (not including memes of course). Post the first line/sentence of it in your journal, and that's your year in review!

If I ever got married again (God forbid!) I'd want Leia's head piece.

Beautiful work.

Yayyy that was an awesome retrospective!

I have to ask you out of professional curiousity - what was your process for drawing the Malfoy Manor? How did you use references to build it and how did you get the perspective so nicely done?
5th-Jan-2008 10:15 pm (UTC)
Eeee. I spent quite a bit of time finding references. I started with the ref figs I used for Hermione and Lucius. Then I looked for ballrooms that matched the angle. But the ballroom is an amalgamation of references to make it original; I didn't want it being recognised. ;~P
Some of my errors in the perspective of that painting annoy the crap out of me. Plus it was a big (roughly 24"x20") acrylic painting so I was terrified of fucking it up and having to start over. I get a bit precious about things like that. At one stage the floor had this lovely luminescence, and I was terrified of ruining that with shadows and reflections but, of course, the picture looked a thousand times better once I added those in.
I spent way too much time on the bloody string quartet! LOL! And then they're covered up by the dancers. But I liked how they looked in the end.
And, yes, I got references for every character. O.o My favourite by the end was Tonks. XD Even though we can barely see her; I love her outfit!
The chandelier was my creation: it's made of dragons!

*eee* So cool. Now that I know it's acrylic, that makes so much sense, because the painting quality and texturing is so so LOVELY. And yowza, that is big! I'd be so imtimidated!

And YESSSS the floor gloss, omg. I'd be terrified of spoiling it too!

And yay - this means that I do backgrouns right (an amalgamation), woohoo!! I'm on the right track!!

<3 <3 Thank you soooo much for sharing, darling!!

Seeing this post reminded me... I scanned in the Ron/Luna you drew me at Prophecy. ♥

I'm not sure how long I am going to leave it up there as I want to clean up my photobucket and get it organized... but it'll be up for at least a few days.

Ooo! Thanks for posting that! I've saved it to my Prophecy file. :~D

You're welcome! ♥

The Bill-portrait is definitely my favourite!!!
Of course all your other pics are wonderful too :-)
5th-Jan-2008 11:43 pm (UTC)
But it was appreciated the most by ME!!! And I can't tell you how much it and the Tim Tams brightened up my day. I was ecstatic for days and days. I used it as motivation when I was tired and my leg hurt and I had to get up and go to class so I could graduate. Thank you oh so much for making that so under-appreciated piece of Bill for me.

And he was done for YOU, and I wanted him to be just for you, which is probably why I didn't post him anywhere at the time, and then he slipped my mind. ;~D I'm so glad he made you happy!! I certainly know he was appreciated by the person he was painted for, and that's what was important!

I was staggered and ashamed at how little art I managed to do this year!

I'd love to see the one of Joe, did you upload it anywhere?

The Bill one is fantastic and nearly makes me consider a Weasley "sexy". LOL!

Remember Christopher Walken on SNL and the "more cowbell" skit? Two words, "more Malfoy".
6th-Jan-2008 01:20 pm (UTC)
Here's the one of Joe -

I haven't seen the Chris Walken SNL skit (not that I can remember anyway!), but I get the message! ;~D

edited because I fail at HTML!

Aww, that's a great picture of Joe. Really captures his personality. He was such a cool guy.

Here's the SNL skit with Christopher Walken and "more cowbell".

I cannot allowed to see the Ron/Harry pic. I listed you as friend earlier, so I Can't understand...
6th-Jan-2008 11:41 pm (UTC)
I've unlocked it, so hopefully you can see it now. :~) I wouldn't normally lock it, but I get all wibbly and paranoid sometimes. Depends what the LJ gods are up to. ;~P
6th-Jan-2008 11:47 pm (UTC) - Thanks:)
Thanks. It's a great pic, it would be a waste to miss it. I'm a big fan of your atrworks anyway, you know:) They looks older on this pic, are they older according to the story?

You do things with texture that quite take my breath away; it's always a joy to see your art, and any post you make is always a treat. I'll try not to lurk so much this year and tell you so more often. :)

Hi there! I think that your art is absolutely beautiful; I love your deviantart page as well as your HP gallery. Do you mind if I friend you? I also heard that you attended Prophecy last year - will we see you at Terminus or Portus this time around?

All of your work is wonderful! Tell me, is there any story to go along with the Yule Ball Art. I love that piece and the description (on your site) just leaves me wanting more of the story. I love the portraits of the founders, and the SW weddings are beautiful. Oh, that reminds me, I need to finish reading your SW fics.
18th-Mar-2008 05:56 pm (UTC)
The piece you did of Bill Weasley was my desktop background for many, many months. So while it may have felt underappreciated. I give it much ♥
18th-Jun-2009 05:02 pm (UTC)
Oh my, all this art in one post is amazing! It's so difficult to pick a favourite from this post, but your Bill Weasley is definitely very very sexy. I'm in awe of your artistc abilities.
